The EB-5 is the fifth employment-based immigrant category: a green card for an investor who places capital in a US commercial enterprise. As of October 2026, the investment amount is $1,050,000, or $800,000 for a project in a targeted employment area (TEA) or an infrastructure project. An inflation adjustment is expected on January 1, 2027; the new amount has not been announced. A 2-year conditional green card comes first, and conditions are then removed with Form I-829. No separate investment is needed for the spouse and children under 21.
